The Fashion Council Germany e.V. commissions the first study on the status of German fashion

The Fashion Council Germany e.V. commissions the first study on the status of German fashion. The representative body of the German fashion industry aims to analyse the reputation and relevance of the German fashion industry and to address its influence on the economy and culture.

The Fashion Council Germany e.V. is aiming for the first survey of a report that looks at the core of the German fashion industry with inclusion of all relevant industries of the entire value chain. The aim of the study is to show the size and relevance of the German fashion industry and to quantify its contribution to the German economy.

Furthermore, the study will present industry voices and opinions and make industry recommendations by means of joint addressing. The core point is the presentation of the strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and risks of the German fashion industry, especially with a focus on existing locational advantages and resources.

Part of the study advisory board as well as the expert interviews for the data collection are among others Christiane Arp (VOGUE Germany), Alfons Kaiser (FAZ), Bianca Lang (brookmedia), Heiko Desens (PUMA), John Cloppenburg (Peek & Cloppenburg), Michael Kliger (MyTheresa), André Maeder (KaDeWe), Dieter Holzer (Marc O'Polo), Daniel Terberger (KATAG), Olaf Schmidt (Messe Frankfurt) and Jürgen Leuthe (Luisa Cerano).

"We are very pleased to commission the first study on the status of German fashion. After all, a data collection and evaluation like this is long overdue to draw attention to the considerable contribution the fashion industry makes to the German economy. Thus, Germany as a fashion location must finally be positioned and promoted more strongly so that local productions, textile manufacturers and also the visibility of fashion "Made in Germany" can be perceived more nationally and internationally." – Scott Lipinski, Managing Director Fashion Council Germany e.V.

"As a founding member and chair of the board of the Fashion Council Germany, I am very pleased to be able to accompany this important project. Because the study will not only illustrate the greatness of the German fashion industry, but also and especially its indispensable importance for our economy." – Mandie Bienek, Chairwoman of the Board Fashion Council Germany e.V.

"The study initiated by the Fashion Council Germany e.V. will for the first time depict the German fashion industry in its entire value chain and thus its great importance for Germany as a business location. Until now, there has not been such a holistic view of the fashion industry in this country. We as VMDA TFL and platform of the relevant mechanical engineering and technology companies are very pleased to be partners of the Fashion Council Germany in the study." – Elgar Straub, Managing Director VDMA Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies

"As a lobby group representing the interests of German fashion manufacturers, we very much welcome the Fashion Council's initiative. The clients accept the challenge of competently and correctly depicting our industry in terms of its value and importance for the entire economy and society - to give it the status it deserves. Therefore, we support this project with great commitment." – Thomas Lange, Managing Director GermanFashion

The first publication of the study will take place in January 2021. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy based on a resolution of the German Bundestag. Partners of the project are the VDMA Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies Association and the GermanFashion Modeverband Deutschland e.V..
