The Berlin Fashion Week attaches a greater importance to the topic of sustainable fashion than most of the other fashion weeks worldwide. The Neonyt Trade Fair is the biggest trade fair for sustainable fashion in the whole world but also the Premium Group and Panorama Berlin are present many eco-fashion-brands on a regular basis and make sustainability to a core topic of Berlin. But also besides the Berlin Fashion Week there are numerous networks, platforms and institutions which engage for sustainable fashion. Here we present some of the most important addresses.
The initiators of the network Natascha von Hirschhausen and Stefanie Barz promote a cooperation between designers who are committed to an ecologically and socially compatible fashion industry and want to exploit their positive potential. The idea was to create an expertise platform for ethical labels and independent fashion designers was born in the course of the sustainability project "Local International", which was organized by the Goethe Institut Bangladesh in cooperation with the University of the Arts and the Art Academy Berlin-Weißensee.
Amazingy is an online shop for organic and natural cosmetics, hair care and beauty products. It was founded in 2011 by Floris and Ingrid van Onna from the Netherlands, and holds office in Berlin, Germany. Some of you might know Flow & Ingy better as DJ couple Flowing. Now they run the online shop with the associated magazine and donate part of their sales to charity projects.
AMD Akademie Mode Design
The AMD Academy of Fashion and Design is a private university for design, fashion and media studies with its main campus in Hamburg and additional study centers in Düsseldorf, Munich and Berlin. The AMD was recognized as a private university in Sep. 2005 by the Senate of the City of Hamburg, offering international and interdisciplinary courses with focus on fashion, design and business management.

BIS ES MIR VOM LEIBE FÄLLT was awarded with the Federal Ecodesign Award 2012, the Green Buddy Award of the city of Berlin 2017, the top needle 2018 by INKOTA and the first place of the RE-USE competition of the Senate for Environment and Traffic of the City of Berlin 2018 and is nominated for the ZEIT KNOWLEDGE AWARD, Category Action, 2019.

compose is berlin-based communication agency that specializes in finding unique storylines. It is a full-service PR agency that focus on sustainable fashion, lifestyle and living and creates ties between brands, press, influencers and consumers.
DesignFarm promotes the development of exploitation and start-up strategies in the design-in-tech sector in three different directions product-related innovations, innovative manufacturing processes and competence-based foundations by giving grants to design-oriented start-ups.
Fashion Changers is a community for bloggers, founded by the influencers Jana Braumüller, Nina Lorenzen and Vreni Jäckle. They work online and offline in order to stand up for new rules in the fashion industry. Their main focus are events that combine the fun of fashion with the critical dealing with industry and the promotion of the exchange. Recently more than 300 multipliers visited the Fashion Changers X prePEEK event in January 2018, which took place in cooperation with the Greenshowroom and the Ethical Fashion Show Berlin during the Berlin Fashion Week. The founders also are coming from the blogosphere and they not only are having the necessary know-how but also a large network.
Fashion Revolution is a global campaign that commemorates in more than one hundred countries worldwide on every 24th of april the disaster of Rana Plaza that happened in 2013. The campaign unites individual voices calling for change in the textile sector with the hashtag #Whomademyclothes, and brings fashion producers and consumers together with the answer hashtag #Imadeyourclothes.
With a formulated manifesto Fashion Revolution takes now structural and political steps to demand changes in the textile industry. In addition, the campaign calls for clarification of the situations of individuals working in textile productions. Fashion Revolution publishes the Garnment-Worker-Diaries to show the perspectives of actual fashion designers.
The Fraunhofer Institute of Reliability and Microintegration IZM is a member of the Allianz Textile. Various Fraunhofer institutes have joined forces to map the entire textile value chain and to focus on various aspects such as smart textiles as well as sustainability, life cycle assessment and recycling. The IZM develops and qualifies system integration technologies within national and international projects. B. in textiles, or stretchable substrates.
Future Fashion Forward
The Future Fashion Forward Association promotes education in textile and fashion production. He focuses on sustainability, the environment, social standards and social justice. Green Fashion Tours
The Green Fashion Tours offers guided tours in which attendees can discover the most interesting spots for sustainable fashion and upcycling in Berlin. Visitors can choose between regular and individual tours.
Sustainability is anchored as an independent module in the fashion design master. In addition, various projects were carried out on the subject. There were for example analyses about why garment companies should create transparency in their supply chains. The result was a guideline / recommendation for the practice.

IDZ | Internationales Design Zentrum Berlin
Since was founded in 1968, the International Design Center Berlin (IDZ) has been one of the leading institutions for promoting design in Germany. Its members include more than two hundred design-fucused companies, agencies and institutions. Sustainable Design is one of the central topics of the IDZ. In cooperation with five partners from the Baltic Sea Region, it participated in the EU project »EcoDesign Circle«. During the course of three years, exhibitions and workshops were realized in Germany, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden, counseling and educational formats offered and competence networks built.
Since 2010 the fashion designer Sigrid Münzberg has been showing in courses and on her blog how something new can emerge from discarded clothing.
Greenlab, das Labor für nachhaltige Design Strategien der Gestaltungsfachgebiete an der Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin, vernetzt Hochschulprojekte mit praxisorientierter Forschung und Industrie mit dem Ziel, innovative Konzepte für nachhaltige und umweltfreundliche Produkte und Dienstleistungen zu inspirieren und zu entwickeln. Initiatoren und Gründer von GreenLab sind Prof. Dr. Zane Berzina, Prof. Susanne Schwarz-Raacke und Prof. Heike Selmer. Das GreenLab möchte dabei helfen, durch einen interdisziplinären Arbeitsansatz von Textil, Mode, Produktdesign und Visueller Kommunikation innovative und ganzheitliche Lösungen zu kreieren.
