Berlin Designer Tim Labenda won the international woolmark prize

Berlin Designer Tim Labenda won the International Woolmark Prize Europe Regional 2016/2017 in the category womenswear.

Last Tuesday Tim Labenda was in competition with 20 other competitors, including the Berlin Menswear label Brachmann, and finally won the International Woolmark Prize Europe Regional 2016/2017. Seven judges were responsible for this big decision.

“Tim presented glamour with a clear signature. He has shown current modern looks, which included Fake Fur made of wool and decorated crystals,” said one of the judges Franca Sozanni, the chief editor of Vogue Italia. 

He receives 33.400 € for his awarded designs and he is going to join the mentor program. In January he is going to be the German representative at the European competition finals in Paris.

The designer Tim Labenda, who has choosen Berlin as his hometown did his apprenticeship at Hugo Boss. After that he studied fashion design in Pfortzheim. In 2013 the chief editor of Vogue Germany Christiane Arp took notice of Tim and allowed him to show his designs at Vogue Salon. One season later he designed a collection for the E-Commerce company Zalando. At the same year he won the Award “Start your Fashion Business” by the Senate Administration for Economics, Technology and Research with his Spring/Summer collection 2015.

He presented his fall/winter collection 2015/2016 again at Berlin Fashion Salon. As a result of this he became the Creative Director of the ecological Menswear fashion line of the brand HessNatur. Tim Labenda is very keen on a good production. That’s the reason why he produces his collections in Germany and orders the fabric in Italy, France, Scotland and Germany. Tim works and lives in Berlin-Kreuzberg.

Woolmark Prize 

The International Woolmark Prize is going to be award annual. The competition was founded of The Wool Company, the association of Australian wool producers. The last time when a German brand won the European finals was in 2014 in the category Womenswear: the designer duo Augustin Teboul.
